Listen to Vikki Adams' experience of synthetics, from injury to the track.

An international multi-event athlete with a focus on javelin throw, who has returned to sport through the use of the 10mm Poly-Tape..

Around 2015/16, I started getting pain in my throwing arm, in my medial collateral ligament. I did extensive physiotherapy for a good year, and unfortunately, I didn't see any improvement. There was a lot of pain on my medial side whenever I was throwing, doing weight training. Also, my range of movement started to go.

In 2016, I went to see a consultant, who told me I had completely ruptured my medial collateral ligament in my throwing arm, and he decided to reconstruct it with the synthetic device, the Xiros Poly-Tape.

Since that surgery, my personal best has improved by 5 meters, from 39m pre-surgery to 44m post-surgery. I've won multiple Yorkshire Championship Titles, North England Championship titles, and also broken the Yorkshire Championship record for Javelin.

In terms of the pain, I have none while throwing whatsoever. I've got a full range of movement in my throwing arm, and I can weight train, and competition-wise, it is great.

I have complete confidence in my elbow now. I didn't have to have any tissue harvested from my own body, so I don't have any compensation or anything like that from any other area of my body.

Because I knew it was a synthetic device, I knew that it was very strong, it's not going to fail, and there are so many valgus strains and things that go on in the javelin throw, because it is a very impactful sport, it takes you through a massive range of movements in your throwing arm, but I know with that synthetic devivce it's not going to rupture with what I do.

I am full of confidence with it; it shows in my training and shows in my personal bests.
